Treatment for varicose veins?

Varicose veins that have been stripped or removed will now reappear however new varicose veins can develop after the initial operation.

Options for treating smaller veins include:
Sclerotherapy: Veins are injected with a chemical that 'sclerose' (close and seal) the vein. A few days or weeks after the procedure bandages or compression stockings must be worn to keep the veins compressed.

Other treatment options for varicose veins include:
Radiofrequency ablation and endovenous laser ablation. Using ultrasound, a probe is guided into one of the longer varicose veins. The damaged vein is then heated up and sealed using laser or radiofrequency energy.
Transilluminated powered phlebectomy. Varicose veins are surgically removed by a suction device which passes light under the skin. The procedure attempts to avoid scarring through multiple incisions.
Foam sclerotherapy. With the help from ultrasounds, a foam chemical mixture is injected into the veins to push the pooled blood away and making the veins go into spasm. After the procedure the veins will be swollen and hardened for a short period of time during which compression stockings must be worn to keep pressure on the veins.
