Preventing the spread of molluscum contagiosum
While technically molluscum contagiosum is contagious, the condition is not very serious and the chances of contracting the virus from another person are relatively low.
However to minimize the chances of contracting the virus the possible prevention methods can be followed:
- Avoid sharing towels, clothes or toys made with fabric
- Avoid sharing bathwater.
- Avoid skin-to-skin contact with other people (for example, by covering affected areas with clothing).
- Encourage affected children not to scratch the bumps to reduce the risk of spreading the rash to other areas of the skin.
- For patients with molluscum contagiosum, cover any areas of skin affected by bumps.
