How is endometriosis diagnosed?

Only a procedure called a laparoscopy can confirm diagnosis of endometriosis. There are no blood tests or imaging studies that can accurately diagnose endometriosis.

During a laparoscopy, a special camera is inserted through the belly button into the pelvic cavity to determine if there is any abnormal endometrial tissue. A small tissue biopsy will also be taken and sent to a laboratory for analysis.
