Dermabrasion is a mechanical technique performed by trained dermatologists and plastic surgeons, which involves a tool with a rotating diamond tip to mechanically resurface the outer skin layers. No chemicals are involved in dermabrasion. The removal of the outer skin layer then triggers skin remodeling and repair by stimulating growth factors to build new collagen and elastin proteins. The dermabrasion process is repeated up to six times to treat wrinkles and acne scars. Recovery time from dermabrasion takes up to 3 weeks.
