Hair loss in Women
It may be surprising to discover that 40% of hair loss cases occur in women. Hair loss in women may not be as obvious as hair loss spreads evenly along the scalp. Men, on the other hand, tend to lose hair in concentrated spots that are more visible. Like male pattern hair loss, the hormone DHT plays a large role in female hair loss. Although most women with hair loss have normal hormone levels, a laboratory test may be helpful to rule out other hair loss causes such as thyroid disease or iron deficiency.
Hair loss medication for women – Minoxidil is approved for treatment in women experiencing hair loss. However, minoxidil should not be used during pregnancy, as it may cause health problems or birth defects in babies. Pregnant women should never take Finasteride, as serious birth defects may occur to the baby.
