Does actinic keratosis cause skin cancer?
Rarely, it can lead to a dangerous skin cancer called invasive squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). SCC develops in less than one in 1000 patients. While the risk of developing skin cancer is low, the risk of skin cancer is still much higher in patients with actinic keratosis. If treated early, actinic keratosis most likely will not lead to skin cancer.
