Complications of untreated Trichomoniasis
What are the potential effects if Trichomoniasis is left untreated?
If Trichomoniasis is left untreated, the infection will remain in the body and although the patient may not display any symptoms they are running the risk of passing the infection to other sexual partners.
There is also evidence to suggest that Trichomoniasis can contribute to other health complications in both women and men.
For women, Trichomoniasis can increase the risk of developing the following complications:
- Cervical neoplasia
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
- Infertility
In men, Trichomoniasis may cause the following complications:
- Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU)
- Chronic prostatitis
- Infertility
- Epididymitis
