Beta hydroxy acid (BHA) treatments for skin
Beta hydroxy (BHA) treatments for skin
Beta hydroxy acid is very similar to alpha hydroxy acid both in terms of composition and effectiveness at treating skin conditions such as wrinkles and clearing up skin blemishes.
Difference between alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid
The main differences between alpha hydroxy acids vs. beta hydroxy acids are:
- Beta hydroxy acid (BHA): composed of salicylic acid
- Lipid (oil) solubility: alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) are water soluble only, while beta hydroxy acid (BHA) is lipid (oil) soluble.
- Due to beta hydroxy acid's (BHA) oil solubility, BHA is a more effective acne treatment for people with oily skin versus alpha hyrdoxy (AHA).
