Alopecia areata causes

Alopecia areata is considered to be an autoimmune disorder that attacks hair follicles and causes smooth, round patches of baldness. The cause of Alopecia areata is still uncertain, but genetic factors play a role in causing Alopecia areata. Alopecia areata tends to run in the family in 20% of cases. Alopecia areata is also linked to other autoimmune disorders such as goiter and Hashimoto’s disease. There may be environmental factors that trigger Alopecia areata in patients. Stress, drugs and other toxins are suspected to play a role in stimulating Alopecia areata.
