What are the symptoms of trichomoniasis in women and men?
Trichomoniasis symptoms in men
In men, trichomoniasis has not been well studied or characterized. Most often, a male trichomoniasis infection is asymptomatic and there are no signs of infection. However, recent research is linking male trichomoniasis as a cause of non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU).
trichomoniasis symptoms in women
Typically, only women experience symptoms associated with Trichomonas infection. Symptoms of trichomoniasis in women include vaginal discharge, odor, irritation, and itching; however, about half of all women infected with trichomoniasis vaginalis have no symptoms. Trichomoniasis can also cause bacterial vaginosis in women. Infection with trichomoniasis is a significant cause of premature delivery and low birth weight in newborn babies.
